Why Specialists Don’t Recommend a Seven Day Diet

Do health practitioners and fitness gurus recommend going on a 7 day weight loss diet? Certain things might be a good enough excuse to go that route such as a friend’s wedding or high school reunion. You’ve also been saving money to buy that blue dress that would go perfect with your new hairstyle.

Well, I guess in that case you could consider a 7 day weight loss program to lose between 11 and 16 pounds in just seven days. So why don’t Dietitians recommend it? Let me explain why it’s not such as a good idea other than being simply unhealthy.

You’re Unknowingly Training Your Metabolism to Slow Down

Let’s say you decide to go on a quick fix diet plan such as the 7 day diet plan. It then tells you to eat approximately 1000 calories per day. It’s not recommended to eat that amount of calories. It’s simply not enough. You are then teaching your metabolsim to burn that amount of calories. Your metabolism adapts to your lifestyle even in just a few days. A human body is actually so awesome. It goes into “survival mode” where it starts to reserve as much resources as possible.

You will lose weight in the first few days of your 7 day weight loss plan and you’ll also lose it quickly. Your metabolism will burn your food at its normal rate at let’s say 2500 calories. Therefore you’ll be amazed at how fast you’ll be losing those pounds. The sad part is that your body will go into a “survival mode”. It begins to preserve itself so that you can keep on going for longer. It’s almost like your body thinks you’re stuck in the desert. Then it adapts itself to your calorie intake and so will your weight loss tempo slow down till it completely stops.

After you’ve completed the quick fix 7 day weight loss diet you’ll probably go back to your old routine with 2500 calories per day. Now, your body is still in its “survival mode” when you follow your old routines. In other words, you’ve trained your body to burn around 1100 calories per day and you’re now providing it with 2500 calories per day. That is an extra 1400 calories your body will store as fat. Not only will you gain back your weight but you’ll also gain more weight than before. The body takes longer to increase its metabolism as for it to slow down.

What Do You Suggest Then?

There are a few reasons why you can follow such a diet plan. You can follow it to clean your body. It’s almost like a kind of “detox week” where you’ll get rid of all the bad bacteria in your body. If the sole purpose of the plan is to lose weight very fast then I won’t recommend it. Within 3 weeks you’ll gain more fat than before. Rather do some proper research and find a diet that doesn’t promise unrealistic results. The best diet is one where you’ll lose weight on continues basis till you’ve reached your ideal weight. Small portions of food at regular intervals each day have always been a winner.
